I tried to access an electronic resource, but got an error message that says something like “page not found”.

This is likely due to a firewall on your end that is preventing you from using the proxy server.  This most commonly happens when trying to access the Library’s electronic resources from a place of business, from another university, or from a country with a national firewall.  To test this, go to this URL:  https://login.proxy.library.ucsb.edu/login.  If you do not get a login box, there is a firewall blocking your way.  There are two things you can try:

  • Download and install the campus Pulse VPN client and see if it gives you access.

  • Contact the network administrator for your physical location and ask them to add these URLs as an exception to the firewall rules:  https://login.proxy.library.ucsb.edu/login and https://proxy.library.ucsb.edu.
